I am a Professor of Mathematics at Bridgewater State University. My scholarly interests include pure and applied computability theory, mathematical logic, and artificial intelligence.

Office:

Research Interests:

Computability Theory, Artificial Intelligence, and Mathematical Logic

Sample Courses Taught:

Comp 150 (Programming and Computer Algebra),
Math 202 (Linear Algebra),
Math 360 (Foundations of Modern AI), and
Math 403 (Probability Theory)

Additional Information:

I recieved my Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 2012 under the supervision of Peter Cholak.

In my research, I study the interplay between mathematics, computation, and reasoning/proof through the lense of applied computability theory and reverse mathematics. In recent years, I have also begun studying how modern artificial intelligent systems model human reasoning.

Prior to coming to Bridgewater State, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut, Waterbury, and a Lecturer in Mathematics at the Pennyslvania State University.

Fun Facts

Click here to see my mathematical genealogy, collected from the Mathematics Genealogy Project. Edges point from a student to their PhD advisor.

Interesting mathematical 'ancestors' include Saunders Mac Lane (1934, with 2208 descendents), David Hilbert (1855, with 51277 descendents), Carl Friedrich Gauß (1799, with 132403 descendents), Philipp Melanchthon (1511, with 247190 descendents), and Avicenna (c1000, with 247763 descendents). Academia has certainly changed a lot over the last 1000+ years!

I have an Erdős Number of 4.

To illustrate a fun use of probability, I wrote up a thought experiment about estimating how many people will have your exact name.
